Look what I found today.

August 16, 2009

treasureWe were digging in some stuff today, looking for Drew’s immunization records. Anyway we dug out an old trunk that had the top to our wedding cake, my cap and gown, a couple of my Grandmother’s aprons, a few pieces of Robert’s Grandmother’s china and a quilt top that I assume was my Grandmother’s on my Mom’s side of the family. Honestly I don’t even remember getting it or putting it in the trunk. But, it is a wonderful find. It is nothing special except it was my Granny’s. The last quilt tops that I had was before I had the HQ and I had to send them off to be quilted. I am looking forward to quilting this one myself. So, another quilt to add to the queue.

The Design Wall is Up!

August 15, 2009

design wallSo, we have been wanting a design wall in the classroom for a while. We have had the foam insulation stuff and the felt for a few weeks. Since there were three of us in the shop today we were able to put the spray adhesive on the insulation and add the felt. We got both pieces of felt trimmed down. Then Robert walked in from painting at the new church building just in time to attach them to the wall. Margaret’s “one block wonder” class got to use it first to check out their “wonder”ful blocks. (bummer that I didn’t get a picture)
But, yea the design wall is up and has a few pinwheel blocks on it.

postcard classI didn’t get a picture of the ladies, but the postcard class was a lot of fun. There were two ladies in the class and Margaret was the teacher and they spread out on EVERY table. It cracked me up. Shawntel said that when she was leaving the house her husband asked if she was going on a three day retreat and she said “nope a three hour class”! That cracked us all up.
one block wonder The ladies working away in the “one block wonder” class. They were a little quiter than the postcard class, but still lots of fun and they got lots of block finished. It was fun to see how the different fabrics took on such a different and beautiful design.

Fetching Water.

Fetching Water Here’s what I have been working on this week. This is “Fetching Water” a Kitambaa Design by Pippa Moore. It is a beautiful quilt. I love her designs. We sell all of them in the shop. This is the second one of her designs I have made. I used some batiks and some vegetable dyed fabric from South America. It was fun to do, and sometimes it is nice to make a smaller quilt and get some almost instant gratification.

Sweet baby quilt.A sweet baby quilt, quilted with a floral echo.
Dresden Plate
One of the many quilts Dell has brought me to finish for her. This one is one of her favorite ones. It was fun to quilt. I can’t wait until she picks it up I want to see her face. I think she will love it. romantic flowers
This quilt was made by Linda as a donation quilt. It is a beautiful romantic quilt. I think it will appeal to lots of people.

The fourth one you will have to wait and see at a later date, it is a surprise.

The Quilting Queue.

August 6, 2009

the quilting queue We have gotten in eight quilts this week to quilt. Amazing!

Cheryl's music quilt.
Here is a fun music quilt made by Cheryl for her nephew. It is a fun quilt that had some big squares that needed something big in the squares.
Close up.
Here’s a close up of the large swirl circle and the swirl echos.Cheryl's music quilt back.
Here’s the back of Cheryl’s music quilt. Plain backs are always interesting when they are on a quilt.

Debbie's double pin wheel sherbert quilt.
This is the first quilt that Debbie and I quilted on the HQ. We really had no idea what we were doing, but knew that we needed to quilt a quilt. This was Debbie’s and it was just going to be h on her bed. So, we quilted it. We were white knuckled while we were quilting, and we quilted the snot out of it. I think that we used 10 bobbins….anyway, Debbie brought it down so I could look at it, because I really like it and wanted to check out the pattern she used because I knew it was different than the one in the book that I have. Well, it is lovely and several people offered to take it off her hands…but, she managed to make it back to Woodstock with it. It inspired me to keep going making lots of double pinwheel blocks….16 down hundreds to go.

Mary Lou, sampler with Baptist fans. Here’s what I got done this Monday. A smaller version of the purple sampler that Mary Lou pieced. She wanted an all over quilting with Baptist fans. I do enjoying quilting that on sampler quilts. This one was interesting as she wanted it quilted witha dark purple thread.

Jennifer's SerenityJennifer made this beautiful hand appliqued wall hanging called serenity. She creatively chose Asian fabrics for this quilt. I tried to copy the beautiful swirls with the quilting.
